Spartans Win Baseball State Championship

The Saint Mark's baseball team defeated Sussex Central 13-4 to win the 2009 state championship at Frawley Stadium this evening.  The win gives the Spartans a record 10th baseball state championship.
Morrin Wins Statewide Scholar-Athlete Award

Gregory Morrin, a senior at Saint Mark's High School, was chosen by the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) as the male recipient of the 2009 DIAA/Harry Roberts Senior Scholar-Athlete Award for the state of Delaware. As the winner of this prestigious award, Morrin received a $2,000 scholarship and a commemorative plaque.
Spartan Golfers Defeat Salesianum to Win First-Ever State Championship

The Saint Mark's Golf team became state champions for the first time in the program's history. The golfers defeated Salesianum 644-648. The team finished its season a perfect 14-0.
Saint Mark's Mourns the Death of Joe O'Neill

Rachel Briggs Selected as Sharpe Scholar

Saint Mark's junior Rachel Briggs has been selected to participate in The Marie Walsh Sharpe Art Foundation 2009 Summer Seminar Program. Briggs, the sole recipient from the state of Delaware, is among an elite group of only 63 artistically gifted high school juniors from across the nation chosen as Sharpe Scholars for 2009 based on the quality and originality of their art work.
Saint Mark's Senior Receives Appointment to U.S. Naval Academy

Ryan Schmidt, a member of the Class of 2009, has received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy (USNA). He was nominated by Joseph Pitts, a United States Congressman from the 16th Congressional District of Pennsylvania. Schmidt has officially accepted his appointment. He will enter the academy, which is located in Annapolis, Md., on July 1, 2009.

Three Seniors Named UD Distinguished Scholars

Seniors Mairead Browne, John Feick and Jennifer Rawding have been named University of Delaware 2009 Distinguished Scholars. They join an elite group of only 96 students selected this year from a pool of 24,000 applicants to receive the most prestigious academic scholarships offered by the University of Delaware.
Spartan Cheerleading Team Wins State Championship

The Spartan cheerleaders have repeated last year's success by once again winning the 2009 state championship. The varsity team is comprised of seven sophomores, four juniors and nine seniors.

Saint Mark's Students Help USO Delaware Support Our Troops

On February 12, representatives from Saint Mark's Student Council delivered more than 1,000 toiletry items and a check for $1,500 to USO Delaware, which is located at the Dover Air Force Base. The donations will be used to support members of every branch of the military, as well as reservists and National Guard members from every state in the nation.
Spartan Wrestling Team Wins Div. I Dual-Meet Championship

The Spartan Wrestling team defeated Caesar Rodney to win the Division I final of the Delaware High School Dual-Meet Wrestling Championships.  The Spartans are ranked No. 12 in the nation by Amateur Wrestling News.
Saint Mark's Announces Winners of First Annual Spartan Speech Classic

Saint Mark's High School is pleased to announce the winners of its first annual Spartan Speech Classic, which was held on January 31, 2009, for students in grades five through eight who attend local Catholic elementary schools. A total of 20 students from six different schools, including Holy Angels School, Our Lady of Fatima School, St. Ann School, St. Anthony School, St. Elizabeth School and Ursuline Academy, participated in this contest.
Class of 2013 Scholarship Recipients Announced

Saint Mark's High School is pleased to announce that academic scholarships will be awarded to 75 eighth-grade students who currently attend a variety of Catholic, Christian, private and public schools in the area. Scholarships are awarded based on outstanding performance on the placement exam, which was administered in December 2008.
Saint Mark's Students Recognized for Musical Talents

Five students from Saint Mark's High School have been recognized for their musical talents by being named to All-State Music organizations, including Orchestra and Senior Band. Students from public, private and Catholic high schools throughout the state competed for positions in these prestigious groups. Band trials included playing scales on demand and playing an audition piece.
Saint Mark's Students Selected for All-State Chorus

Nine students from Saint Mark's High School have been selected as members of the 2008-2009 Delaware All-State Chorus. More than 400 students from public, private and Catholic high schools throughout the state competed for positions in this prestigious group. Trials included singing solo and in quartet, as well as sight reading.
Students Win Top Prizes in American Chemical Society Poster Contest

Juniors JoAnn Poirier, Erin Corrado and Nick Schuck were honored by the Delaware Section of the American Chemical Society (ACS) for their award-winning entries in the state's National Chemistry Week (NCW) poster contest. Each student received a certificate and prize at an award ceremony on November 8 during the NCW open house held by the Delaware Section of the ACS.
Sophomore Selected to Serve on Delaware Community Foundation's Youth Philanthropy Board

Natasha Carlucci, a member of the Class of 2011, has been selected to serve as a member of the 2008-2009 Youth Philanthropy Board (YPB) for New Castle County. The YPB is part of the Delaware Community Foundation, a nonprofit organization that manages charitable funds and awards grants to nonprofits to benefit Delawareans. The Board, along with their advisors and guests, convened at the Community Service Building in October.
Spartans Represent Diocesan Schools at Delaware's Mock Election

Juniors Brian Gonzalez and JoAnn Poirier represented the schools of the Diocese of Wilmington as delegates at the 2008 State of Delaware Student/Parent Mock Election.  The students were accompanied by Amanda Nolan, Saint Mark's social studies teacher.

Sophomore Participated in 4-H/Bosnia Youth Leadership Program

St. Mark's Students Inducted into National Honor Society

A total of 70 St. Mark's students were inducted into the Optimi Chapter of the National Honor Society at a ceremony held in the school theatre on October 6, 2008. Chapter President Michael Howard '09 who was inducted during his junior year, opened the evening with the official call to order.
Advanced Placement Scholars Announced

Four Freshmen Receive Girl Scout Silver Award

Emily Betley, Jaclyn Dawson, Melissa LaRue and Mary-Kate Sulser, all members of the Saint Mark's Class of 2012 and members of Troop 15 of the Girl Scouts of the Chesapeake Bay Council, received the Girl Scout Silver Award at a ceremony held on October 5, 2008.
Three Seniors Named Semifinalists in 2009 National Merit Scholarship Program

John Feick, Michael Howard and Jennifer Rawding, all seniors at St. Mark's High School, have been named semifinalists in the 54th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. They are among an elite group. Of the more than 1.5 million juniors from more than 21,000 high schools who took the 2007 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), approximately 16,000 semifinalists were selected.
