Saint Mark's HIgh School 24th Annual Golf Outing
The 24th Annual Saint Mark’s Golf Outing will be held on Thursday, June 13 at the always popular and challenging Cavaliers Country Club. The outing includes lunch, a round of golf, a post golf dinner, the chance to win prizes and, most importantly, plenty of Spartan spirit.

Get your group of classmates or Saint Mark’s friends together and make plans to attend. You will have a great day and your participation or sponsorship helps to support Saint Mark’s High School.

Spots are limited, and at this great price the event will sell out quickly. The deadline to RSVP is Friday, June 7. No day of registration will be permitted.

The outing will feature 18 holes played in a scramble format. A delicious lunch is provided courtesy of our friends at Walter’s Steakhouse. All of this is followed by a Father’s Day auction and a post-round barbecue. There will be refreshments on the course, tee and skill prizes and lots of fun for everyone.

The Saint Mark’s JV Baseball Team Serves Leach School in Motor Activity Training Program Demonstration

The Saint Mark's JV baseball team participated in a Special Olympics training program for the students at John G. Leach School on Thursday, May 2.
 
The team members partnered with students at the school, which serves New Castle County students, ages 3 to 21, who have physical disabilities, moderate to severe intellectual disabilities, or serious health impairments. Together they worked on motor skills as part of the Special Olympics Motor Activities Training Program (MATP), which is designed to prepare athletes with severe or profound intellectual disabilities for sport-specific activities that are appropriate for their ability levels.

Senior Haley Schweizer Named Athlete of the Week

Haley Schweizer '13 was named The News Journal's Athlete of the Week this week after breaking the  record for the most career goals by a varsity high school girls’ lacrosse player in the state. Her sister, Courtney ‘09, set the previous record four years ago.


Saint Mark's Grad Named Immaculata Athlete of the Week for Excellence in Golf

Alumnus Aaron Harper '11 was selected as Immaculata University's Mighty Mac of the Week on April 29, after he led the school's golf team to victory in the 2013 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Golf Championships, held April 26 and 27, 2013.

Saint Mark’s Senior Zachary Boulden Selected as National Merit Scholarship Recipient

Senior Zachary Boulden has been named as a recipient of the National Merit Scholarship, one of only 2500 awarded directly to candidates from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.


Students Show Their Skills in the Culinary Club Cook-Off

The Culinary Club held their first Cook-Off competition on Wednesday, May 1. The competitors were tasked with making a main dish of chicken and a chocolate dessert. First place winners were seniors Victoria Bailor and Anh Nguyen, whose Chicken and Prosciutto Ravioli with Marsala sauce and Chocolate Cake Filled with French Chocolate Mousse, covered with a chocolate butter cream frosting, wowed all the judges.


Junior Hannah Falchuk Featured in News for Common Wealth Award Writing Contest Win

I Am, We Are Campaign Recognizes Students for the Month of March

In an initiative to continue recognizing students and the great things that they do, the Student Council is sponsoring the "I Am, We Are" campaign for this school year. The campaign aims to show how our student body lives the four core values of our mission statement - faith, excellence, integrity and humility. Four students from each grade will be honored each month.


Junior Wins Prestigious Common Wealth Award Writing Contest

Saint Mark’s junior Hannah Falchuk ‘14 won this year’s Common Wealth Awards Writing Contest, in which Delaware high school students compete to meet the winners of this year’s 34th Annual Common Wealth Award. The award honors four renowned individuals for their lifetime accomplishments in enriching modern society in a range of human endeavors.

Denis Belliveau Brings History to Life for Saint Mark's Students with Famed Documentary "In the Footsteps of Marco Polo"

This past Friday, Denis Belliveau, the co-creator of the Emmy nominated documentary, “In the Footsteps of Marco Polo," spoke to freshmen and sophomore students at saint Mark’s about the making of his incredible film and the impact history has made on his career.

Belliveau made history come to life for the students, showing the audience parts of his documentary and discussing his first-hand experience of Marco Polo's journey, which some scholars say was an impossible feat.


Saint Mark's Senior to Perform with NAfME Honors Ensemble on April 7

Patrick Boland ’13 will perform with the National Association for Music Education (NAfME) All-Eastern Honors Ensemble as a member of the mixed chorus. Boland will sing in the bass section to an audience of thousands on Sunday, April 7, 2013, at the Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts, Mortensen Hall, in Hartford, Connecticut.


Saint Mark's Odyssey of the Mind Team To Compete in State Finals on March 23

The Saint Mark’s Odyssey of the Mind team will participate in the 33rd Annual State Finals competition, which will be held on Saturday, March 23 at Smyrna High School. The team hopes to qualify for the World Finals competition as they did last year. This year’s participants include seniors Carly Alexander, Krissy Giles, Victoria Sanchez, and Patrick Cullington, junior Tyler Apostolico, sophomore Ellen Yun, and freshman Michael Evers.


Saint Mark's Receives Second Place in SmartDrive PROMise Signature Campaign

Saint Mark's was awarded second place this week in the SmartDrive PROMise campaign, which was promoted by the Saint Mark’s Students Against Destructive Decisions/Youth to Eliminate Loss of Life (SADD/YELL) Club. The campaign, which aims to help reduce automotive accidents caused by poor decision making, rewards schools and their students with the greatest number of signatures with funds for prom or for the school. This was the first year for the campaign.

Saint Mark's Alumni Inducted into Delaware Basketball Hall of Fame

Congratulations to Maureen Donovan ’83 and John Gordon ’95, who were inducted into the Delaware Basketball Hall of Fame on Saturday, March 16. The induction ceremony was held at the Bob Carpenter Center in Newark. Both Donovan and Gordon had fantastic careers at Saint Mark’s and beyond.


Saint Mark's Hosts 26th Elementary Science Olympiad

Saint Mark’s will host its 26th Annual Catholic and Private Elementary School Science Olympiad on Saturday, March 23, 2013, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Teams of students in fourth, fifth and sixth grades will compete in many exciting events over the course of the day. Medals are awarded for the top five placed teams, but the focus of the day is to promote an interest in science for young students and to encourage participation and learning.


Blue-Gold Week Begins with the 27th Annual Fashion Show

Saint Mark’s Blue-Gold Club kicked off Blue-Gold Week with the 27th Annual Fashion Show this past weekend. The week is a concentration of the club’s year-round efforts to raise awareness and funds for both the Delaware Foundation Reaching Citizens with Intellectual disABILITIES (DFRC) and the Saint Mark's High School Blue/Gold Scholarship Fund.


Saint Mark's Cheerleaders Win Sixth Consecutive State Championship

Senior Earns Full Scholarship to Vanderbilt University

Vanderbilt University informed senior Zach Boulden last week that he will receive the very prestigious Cornelius Vanderbilt Scholarship, a full-tuition scholarship to Vanderbilt, if he is to attend the school next school year.


Three Seniors Named National Merit Finalists

Three seniors have been designated as National Merit Finalists and will now be moving on for consideration as Scholars. Zachary Boulden, Christina Fei and Daniel Gildea were in the top one percent of the nearly one million juniors who took the PSAT last year and are are now closer to receiving a National Merit Scholarship.

Former Spartan baseball player Chris Murphy '11 was named National Collegiate Baseball Writer's Association (NCBWA) Division II National Pitcher of the Week. Murphy, who now attends Millersville University, was honored for his no-hitter thrown against Glenville State on Sunday, February 24.

Students Honored for Performance on American Mathematics Competitions Test

Several Saint Mark’s students were honored for their performance on the American Mathematics Competitions (AMC) test, administered on Friday, February 5, 2013. The top 20 math students from each grade were invited to take the challenging test, which has two forms for high school students to take based on their grade level.

Girls' Volleyball Honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association

The varsity girls’ volleyball team has recently been honored as a recipient of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award for the 2011-2012 season. The team is one of only 198 high school girls’ teams in the country to receive this award.


Saint Mark's Senior Named One of Delaware's Young Environmentalists of the Year for 2012

Senior Missy Matsanka ’13 has been named one of the 2012 Young Environmentalists of the Year by Delaware Division of Natural Resources and Environmental Control and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for her organization and operation of a recycling program at Holy Angels School in Newark.

Former Saint Mark's baseball star Tom Cochran's career in minor and major league baseball is featured today in the sports section of The News Journal.  Cochran '01 is no stranger to hard work and perserverance; he is now pitching for the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, but he has seen adversity in trying make what he has wanted to do since he was a child happen.
