 | The goal of Blue-Gold at St. Mark’s High School is for students to develop an awareness and appreciation of individuals who are mentally challenged as they learn about their talents and abilities. We support the DFRC (Delaware Foundation Reaching Citizens with Cognitive disabilities) through our friendship program, peer activities, and fundraisers. Money raised is donated to DFRC for the educational and social needs of citizens in Delaware with cognitive disabilities.
St. Mark’s Friendship Program encourages relationships between students and teenagers in the community with cognitive disabilities. The friendship groups, consisting of juniors and seniors, meet their buddy at least twice a month and do activities of their choice. In addition, St. Mark’s Blue-Gold plans activities throughout the year. These activities include a Hayride/Bonfire, Halloween Party, Thanksgiving Dinner, Christmas Cookie Bake, Valentine's Party, Picnic, and Prime Night. The activities during Blue-Gold week are the Fashion Show, Flag Football, Ping-Pong, Basketball, Indoor Soccer, Volleyball, and a dance.
There is one executive chairperson and four executive vice-chairs that oversee the 18 committees in the organization. St. Mark’s seniors will fill 50 leadership positions to organize a membership of approximately 500 students. Blue-Gold week will be held from March 20th-27th, starting with the Fashion Show on March 20th and 21st. Try-outs for the Fashion Show are held in January followed by two months of practice and preparation. The Blue-Gold activities culminate with an ice cream social in the spring. Every year we are blessed with a wonderful group of senior leaders who are dedicated and committed to this cause.
