Coed vs Single Sex: Academic Outcomes

There is no denying that an educational debate has always existed for coeducation(CE) versus single sex education (SS). Often the debate surrounds the implications on students academic and social development. In light of this, the US Department of Education was commissioned to conduct an analysis, which included studies from Great Britain, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand; all of which concluded with them finding “little overall difference between SS and CE on academic outcomes” (Halpern, Elliot, Bigler, et al.). This refutes many academic arguments that SS education caters to different brain chemistries, subject orientations and learning styles of boys versus girls.
