This new fitness center will help take our teams to the next level. The state-of-the-art facility will have an immediate impact on our athletes and strengthen our program. Our athletes believe in strength training as the key component to track and field success and injury prevention. Upgrading to a next-level facility will inspire them to achieve greatness.
Steve Bastianelli is considered one of the greatest coaches in the history of Delaware wrestling. During his 23-year tenure as head coach, Saint Mark's won ten state wrestling titles and finished second eight times. He had a dual meet record of 201-79-2 while scheduling some of the nation's toughest prep competition.
He is a member of the Delaware Wrestling Hall of Fame and Delaware Sports Museum and Hall of Fame. Coach Bastianelli was inducted into Saint Mark’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2023.
Coach B Training Center
Located off the back of Tom Rosa Court, the second floor of the gym expansion will be a 5,000 square foot fitness and training center. This dedicated athletic training space will be the catalyst for all Saint Mark's students to reach peak performance for their individual sport or activity.
Coach B. was the architect and first head coach in the highly successful Saint Mark's football program. He led the Spartans to state titles in 1973, 1974, and 1978. Coach Burawski was inducted into Saint Mark’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2020.
Marie Speakman Cheerleading Center
Saint Mark’s cheerleading program has been an important part of the school’s athletic program for generations. Previously, the team has shared space for practice, sometimes moving sessions to the library. Creation of a multipurpose space allow the cheer team room to practice.
Affectionately called SpeakMOM, Marie Speakman began coaching at Saint Mark’s in 1994 leading her team to eight state championships. She was voted Coach of the Year in 2016 and was inducted into Saint Mark’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2021.
