Who Takes the High School Placement Test?
Current 8th grade students should register for the High School Placement Test (HSPT) through Scholastic Testing Services (STS).

Test Dates
Students have the option of taking the test at Saint Mark’s on Saturday, December 1st at 8:30 a.m. or on Sunday, December 2nd at 12:00 p.m.

Why Take the HSPT at Saint Mark’s?
Taking the HSPT at Saint Mark's guarantees consideration for academic scholarships. Students must take the test at their first choice high school!

Registering for the HSPT
Registration is available through Scholastic Testing Services, by clicking here. Registration will close at 11:59 p.m. on November 29th. Please see the walk-in section below, if you miss this deadline. 

Cost of the HSPT
The fee for the test is $65.

HSPT Extended Time
  • To request extended time, please email the Director of Admission with a recent psycho-educational evaluation or other supporting documentation from a psychologist or qualified medical professional expressly defining the need for extended time.
  • Students requesting extended time on the HSPT should register for the Saturday, December 1st test date. There will be no extended testing time on Sunday, December 2nd.
Walk-ins
  • If your family missed the registration deadline, we welcome walk-ins.
  • To prepare for arrival, testing information can be found under "On the Day of the Test."
On the Day of the Test

For Saturday, December 1st:
The HSPT begins at 8:30 a.m. Registration will open at 8:00 a.m. Please enter through the gymnasium lobby.

Be sure your child gets a full night of rest prior to the test date and has a well balanced meal before they come for their exam!

Please bring the following items to the test;
1. A printed copy of your registration confirmation. This will be emailed to you upon completing the registration with Scholastic Testing.
2. A snack and beverage for breaks. Please avoid peanut or tree nut snacks and glass bottles. Students with extra time should bring extra snacks!
3. Two #2 pencils
4. If you have not yet paid the registration fee, please bring a check made payable to the Diocese of Wilmington, in the amount of $65.
*Calculators are not permitted.

Expected dismissal will be between 12:15 and 12:30 p.m. Students with extended time will have up until 1:30 - 1:45 p.m. to complete their exam.

For Sunday, December 2nd:
The HSPT begins at 12:00 p.m. Registration will open at 11:30 a.m. Please enter through the gymnasium lobby.

Be sure your child gets a full night of rest prior to the test date and has a well balanced meal before they come for their exam!

Please bring the following items to the test;

If your child has a documented learning difference and needs accommodations, NO accommodations are available on Sunday 12/2.

Expected dismissal will be between 3:45 - 4:00 p.m.
 
Apply to Saint Mark’s:
After registering for the HSPT, students should complete a Saint Mark's online application by clicking here.

Once Registered for the HSPT
We will send a Recommendation Form to your child's current school, along with a request for school records. It is not required for you to submit separate recommendation forms.

What if my child cannot take the HSPT on the December 1st or 2nd test date?
If your child is unable to make the December 1st or 2nd test date, we have limited space available for our alternate testing date on Thursday, December 20th at 2:30 p.m. To register for this exam date, please contact Alissa McGrisken, Director of Admissions at amcgrisken@stmarkshs.net. 

What if my child missed the December testing dates? Will they still be required to take the HSPT?
All 8th grade students applying for 9th grade, must sit for the HSPT exam. If they missed the December test dates, you should contact Alissa McGrisken, Director of Admissions at amcgrisken@stmarkshs.net. to register your child for one of the alternate testing dates listed below. Space is limited on each of these dates.

January 24th at 2:30 p.m.
February 27th at 2:30 p.m.
March 28th at 2:30 p.m.
April 30th at 2:30 p.m.
May 16th at 2:30 p.m.

What is the fee for an alternate testing date?
The cost for the HSPT is $65. Please mail or bring a check made payable to Saint Mark's High School on their testing date.
